Rising to the GK Challenge, "Less for self, more for others, enough for all". GK stands for Gawad Kalinga which translates to "to give care". The 777 movement is a project that started in 2003 by the GK Foundation. They are striving to build 700,000 homes in 7,000 communities within 7 years in the Philippines and other 3rd world countries. Each year Miss GK 2008 - Miss Philippines Charity Quest is held to support a village project which is located in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City, Philippines. Each candidate takes it upon themselves to raise money for this cause. The winner for 2008 is our very own Armadale Principal, Mary Sequitin. Mary undertook many fundraising ventures including a very successful fashion fundraiser which was jam packed with live performances, fashion parades and raffles. Now as the Ambassador for the youth and spokesperson for Perth, Mary will travel to the GK village in January 2009 to offer support and see the difference she has made. |
